About
I'm Emily. I grew up in Ipoh, Malaysia, which explains my love for coffee and soupy noodles. I was raised in the best family I could have asked for. I studied in Kuala Lumpur for a bit, and then moved across the world for a degree in law at Christ's College, Cambridge. Now I'm in Nottingham for a few months to complete my Bar training (a law thing).
If you really want to know... here's some about me:
I love music: I vary between Snarky Puppy type jazz and alternative rock, but I have to try very hard to appreciate pop (I'm sorry). I like to try different instruments, but I mainly play the piano and the bass. I love a good run (one of my top things to do in Cambridge) and I'm quite into rowing! I sort of enjoy cooking, but I enjoy the eating part much more, especially Sunday night dinners. I also really like nature—especially waterfalls—but am really scared of worms and long many-legged things like millipedes (I feel grossed out even typing this). But I still enjoy nature enough to always be up for a trail run or a splash at some wild hot spring.
I really enjoy studying law. I do appreciate that studying law is not for everyone, but I enjoy convincing people they'd enjoy it more than they think. You'd often find me snaking conversations with non-lawyers into law and being amused that they enjoy it.
Most importantly, I am a Christian. I think it is a misconception that faith involves shutting your eyes and suppressing your rationality. On the contrary, my faith explains so much of the universe around me: the stuff in the Bible accounts for our beautiful world, our moral intuitions, and pangs of a sense of transcendence beyond the material world presented before our physical senses. And my faith doesn't just explain what I see and hear. It tells me of a reality that is beautiful beyond my imagination, transforming my life now and my hope for the future. This hope is anchored in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
And I aim to write about this! I may throw in some nerdy thoughts from my lecture-time daydreams.
Enjoy, and thanks for visiting! Would love to hear your thoughts on what I write—ehml.meili@gmail.com. All views my own.
